Design for Design Sake.
Design these days seems to be divided, between functional practical design, vs beautifully crafted abstractness that has nothing to do with the subject matter at hand. Design is commercial art, it is a means to an ends, it is not fine art. Design is to take a message and convey that message with emotion through copy, typography, imagery and artistic flair. Design becomes frivolous when the design is done to impress other designers. While this may win you kudos on behance, or an awards competition did that design actually meet its mark is the question? I see so much design these days done to impress other designers, to me that lessens the effectiveness of design in general.
